Expert Travel Planning. Meticulously Crafted. Deeply Personal.
I’m Brian Whitacre — a certified UK & Ireland travel specialist based in Portland, Oregon. I help discerning travelers experience the British Isles, the Holy Land, and the world’s great rivers without the guesswork, the wasted days, or the nagging feeling you could have done better.

How a Surprise in London Changed Everything
I’ll be honest: London was an afterthought.
I was already in Paris. A few extra days nearby felt like a reasonable excuse to check off another city. I went in with low expectations — a busy, gray place full of stuffy people and tired tourist traps.
I was completely wrong.
What I found was a city that was alive. Diverse. Energetic. Rich with history that felt present, not preserved behind glass. London didn’t just surprise me. It felt like home.
So I went back.
Beyond London, into the countryside — the historic market towns, the quieter stretches most visitors never find. And then I kept going. Norway. France. Germany. Italy. Every trip deepened my understanding of what makes European travel extraordinary, and what makes it fall flat.
Along the way, I started building. A global network of partners who know their destinations as their home. A growing body of client experience from Australia and Greece to Ireland and the Philippines. In 2024, I traveled to Amsterdam for the ASTA River Cruise Convention, where I went aboard ships from Viking, Emerald, AmaWaterways, and others — adding firsthand ship knowledge to everything I’d already learned through certification and supplier training.
In 2019, I founded Whitacre Travel. Not to be a booking engine.
To be the person I wish I’d had before that first trip to London — someone who had done the work to actually know these destinations, someone who could cut through the noise, someone who cared about the difference between a trip that’s fine and one that genuinely changes you.
I’m based in Portland, Oregon, where I live with my wife and our four kids. When we’re not exploring somewhere new as a family, I’m planning someone else’s next great adventure.
Certified Where It Counts
Anyone can call themselves a travel specialist.
These aren’t honorary titles. They’re completed training programs covering destination knowledge, local logistics, and the specifics of planning trips that actually deliver.

Why Work With a Specialist?
You could book this trip yourself.
Spend a few hours on Google. Compare dozens of hotels with nearly identical ratings and almost identical photos. Read reviews from strangers whose idea of a perfect trip might be nothing like yours. Book something that looks right. Hope it is.
That’s how most people plan international travel. And it’s why so many come home with a version of what they wanted — close, but not quite.
Here’s what working with a specialist changes:
Deep, Focused Expertise
I don’t try to be everything to every traveler. I specialize in three areas — UK & Ireland travel, Holy Land pilgrimages, and river cruises — which means I know these destinations at a level that generalist agents and booking sites simply can’t match. I know which hotels in Edinburgh have rooms with the best views. I know which Holy Land guides bring the experience to life and which ones go through the motions. I know which river cruise lines are worth the premium and which aren’t.
An Itinerary Built Around You — Not a Template
You’ve probably read enough “Top 10” lists to know they don’t tell you what’s actually right for you. Before I plan anything, I listen. What’s the purpose of this trip? What matters most — pace, privacy, culture, comfort, spiritual significance? What have you already done? What can’t be missed? Your itinerary reflects all of that.

A Real Person in Your Corner
With travel, you need to be prepared for anything — a delay, a room that doesn’t match the photos, an unexpected change. That’s the nature of it. The partners I book through provide in-country support with a local number during business hours and an emergency line after hours. Before you leave, I’ll brief you on how to handle the situations most travelers encounter. And if you need me directly, I’m here.
Relationships That Open Doors
Standard booking channels give everyone the same options. My supplier relationships mean I can often access upgrades, amenities, and experiences that aren’t available to the general public — a better cabin location, a private tour arranged outside regular hours, an introduction to a local guide who makes the whole trip.
Where I’ll Take You

UK & Ireland
England is where my passion for travel began, and I keep going back. For Scotland, Wales, and Ireland, my expertise runs deep through the formal certification programs I’ve completed — Scots Agent, Wales Pro, and Ireland Specialist — and through the local partners I’ve built relationships with on the ground in each country. I’ve planned trips across all four nations, and I know what my clients have loved, what has surprised them, and what to avoid. Whether you want the energy of London, the wild beauty of the Scottish Highlands, the medieval heart of Ireland’s ancient east, or the dramatic coastline of Wales, I can put it together in a way that feels seamless and unhurried.
Holy Land & Christian Travel
I haven’t walked these streets myself — and I say that upfront, because I think honesty matters more than a polished pitch. What I have done is earn my Faith-Based Travel Specialist certification through ETS, an organization that has been exclusively focused on Christian travel for over 50 years. I’ve built partnerships with trusted local specialists and guides who know this region as their home, and I’ve planned pilgrimages for clients who came back profoundly moved. Whether you’re leading a church group or traveling as a couple seeking something deeply personal, I approach these trips with the care and reverence they deserve.

River Cruises
In 2024, I traveled to Amsterdam for the ASTA River Cruise Convention — an industry event where I went aboard ships from Viking, Emerald, AmaWaterways, and several other lines. I walked the cabins, ate the food, talked to the crews, and came home with a much clearer picture of what separates these lines than any brochure or training program could give me. Combined with my AmaWaterways certification, supplier relationships, and years of client feedback, I know these lines at a level that makes a real difference when it’s time to match a traveler to the right ship. I haven’t taken a full river cruise itinerary as a passenger — but I know what’s on these ships, and I know which ones are right for which travelers.
